Hopscotch - Game 1

"I would go, but I have to help my dad take care of my baby brother," muttered Penny, the responsible one.

The next day Cocoa waddled to the end of the island with her backpack, ready to leave. Her friends met her at the ocean’s edge to say goodbye. Cocoa was a little nervous.

"Well, I guess this is farewell," said Cocoa.

"Are you sure about this? It’s not too late to change your mind," Izzie said.

"Sometimes a penguin’s got to do what a penguin’s got to do!" Cocoa answered.

She waved goodbye to her friends, jumped into the water, and swam away.

Cocoa swam all day. She had to take many breaks for air, food, and rest, but she kept pushing herself to get to a beach. All she could imagine

was the warm weather, and that kept her focused on her goal. As the water around her started to get warmer, she realized that she was getting closer to the beach!

Cocoa was not sure which way to go, so she stopped a passing starfish.

"Excuse me! Excuse me!" Cocoa called. "Can you please tell me which way to the beach?"
