There's a Hippo in My Bed!

I was tightly tucked in my cozy bed,
but something suddenly made me turn my head.
I saw a tiny mouse that looked cold and lonely,
my bed was too big, so he asked to join me.

I agreed because I liked to share,
but when I turned around a saw a white hare!
He said he wanted a pillow to rest his long ears,
I had plenty of room, so he jumped in and erased all my fears.

A small twinkling light flew across my room,
I recognized it as a firefly as it flew in with a zoom!
Oh no, I thought, My sheets are glowing!
"Turn off your light or you’ll have to get going!"

As I said those words, I looked into my slipper on the floor.
I saw a small red crab that must have traveled from the shore.
He waved his little claw, and asked if he could jump in too.
He promised not to pinch, so he joined the crew.

Lying in bed, I hoped no one had fleas,
then all of a sudden I felt a soft breeze.
I looked at an ostrich flapping her wings.
She dove in, but there was no room for any more things.

I was beginning to get very annoyed. These animals in my bed were not
something I enjoyed. I wanted to sleep and snore and dream, if one
more creature came I was going to scream!

Then, I felt a drop of water on my toe. A hippo plopped onto my bed,
and I heard a crack below. He grinned because he was glad to join the
fun, but as the bed fell through the floor the sleepover was done!

My mom found us when she turned on the light.
She looked angry! I knew my new friends
weren’t welcome tonight.
She shrieked and asked, "Who invited the zoo?"
The hippo pointed at me and said, "It was you!"

My Mom said to me, "It is quite nice to share,
but that is your bed, and animals can’t sleep there."
Then I understood that each had a bed of their own,
my friends left, and now tonight I will sleep peacefully alone!
