One morning, a small bird called Chirper, the chickadee, glided down into the forest. She took flight to snoop for seeds around the trunks of large sycamores. spot was Mortamer, the mole. Mortamer had been sleeping until Steve’s digging had woken him up. Mortamer grew angry then angrier, until he was the angriest he had ever been.
She flew far, then flying farther until she had flown the farthest that she had ever been and found the seeds she sought.

At that very same sycamore tree that Chirper had just found, there was also a small sneaky squirrel named Steve. He was working hard to hide his acorns beneath the sycamore tree. He looked all around for good hiding spots, then looked for better hiding spots, until he found the best hiding spot of all.

Underneath Steve’s hiding

Steve continued digging to hide his stash of acorns. While he dug, he heard an angry yell from beneath him, and to his surprise, a mole popped up right out of the hole that he had been digging.

The squirrel had not been as sneaky as he had thought because his digging had caused the walls of Mortamer’s tunnel to tremble and shake. So Mortamer stormed at Steve in a towering temper. He barked and bellowed becoming loud, and then louder, until he was
